While millions of Australians will have a long weekend creating a public holiday on Monday, October 4, many others will never be afforded the same luxury.
There are a number of public holidays in Australia in 2021, and they may be different depending on which state or territory you’re in.

Some public holidays, such as New Year’s Day, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day are known as National Public Holidays, and are recognised on the same day across Australia.
Other public holidays, such as Queen’s Birthday and Labour Day, are independently declared by state governments.
October Long Week-end public holiday
The Labour Day public holiday – and Queen’s Birthday public holiday in one region – is scheduled for Monday, October 4, 2021. Here are are the states and territories that WILL be celebrating with a day off.
The following information has been provided by the Fair Work Ombudsman .
- Australian Capital Territory (ACT) – Labour Day
- New South Wales (NSW) – Labour Day
- South Australia (SA) – Labour Day
- Queensland (QLD) – Queen’s Birthday
And unfortunately for residents of these states and territories, the Labour Day public holiday will NOT be celebrated on Monday, October 4:
- Victoria (VIC)
- Western Australia (WA)
- Northern Territory (NT)
- Tasmania (TAS)
