Queensland men charged after allegedly starting bushfire in nationwide park with fireworks

Two men in their 30s have allegedly thrown fireworks into a Queensland national park, starting a bushfire which required 12 crews to contain.

The men, elderly 32 and 37, are actually charged after they were observed throwing the fireworks straight into Albinia National Park, west of Rockhampton, about 1 ) 20am on Monday.

Police alleged the blaze destroyed more than 14 square kilometres of the national park.

“It took nine rural open fire and three national park firefighting units to contain the blaze, ” police said in a statement on Mon.

“Due in order to forecasts, firefighting units will be required to monitor the site within the next few days to ensure no further spot fires develop. ”

The mankind has been charged with a single count each of lighting an unauthorised fire.

They are due to appear in Emerald Magistrates Court next month.
