Queen Margrethe of Denmark tests positive for COVID-19

Queen Margrethe of Denmark has tested positive for COVID-19, the Danish royal palace has confirmed.

The 81-year-old is fully vaccinated, experiencing “mild symptoms” and has cancelled a planned winter holiday to Norway.

It comes after the Danish Royal House last week released new photos of Tasmanian mother-of-four Mary and her family as she celebrated her milestone 50th birthday.

The images, which were taken at Frederik VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg, show Mary and Frederik with their children, Prince Christian, 16, Princess Isabella, 14 and twins Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent, 11.

In the new pictures, the royal family posed while dressed in white shirts, with the four children sporting denim jeans.

Mary met Prince Frederik in a Sydney pub in 2000, while he was visiting Australia for the Summer Olympics.

Their engagement was announced three years later and they wed in 2004, in a glittering ceremony at Copenhagen Cathedral.

The couple will become Denmark’s king and queen consort when Queen Margrethe passes away.
