Debutant Jack Clayton leads Bulls charge

Queensland’s Jack Clayton completed a century on debut as the Bulls upped the ante in a run-filled morning session on day two of the Sheffield Shield match against Victoria.

The hosts’ strong bowling line-up had few answers as Queensland’s lower-order piled on the runs before being dismissed on the stroke of lunch for 349.

After scoring at barely two runs an over on day one, Queensland crunched 128 off just 31.1 overs as runs flowed freely at Junction Oval.

After resuming on 72, left-hander Clayton led the way before eventually falling off the bowling of Will Sutherland (3-78) for 109.

James Bazley also posted his highest first-class score with the allrounder cracking 64 off 98 balls.

Victoria’s pain did not abate with the fall of Clayton as Bazley and Matt Kuhnemann (24 not out) added a breezy 53 for the final wicket.

Part-time off-spinner Matt Short stood out for the home side with a career-best 4-74.
