AFP has process to probe candidate threats
WHAT IS BEING DONE TO PROTECT FEDERAL ELECTION CANDIDATES
* When the federal election was called, the Australian Federal Police launched a major incident co-ordination centre with a specialised investigative task force.
* The centre is co-ordinating hundreds of investigators, intelligence officers and protective security specialists, including close personal protection members.

* The task force (Operation Wilmot) is focusing on investigations and receiving all reports of electoral-related crime, including security threats to MPs and candidates.
* Investigations undertaken by the AFP and other relevant partners are co-ordinated by the task force to ensure law enforcement responses are immediate and intelligence is shared.
* The task force uses real-time intelligence and works closely with state and territory law enforcement agencies.
* The AFP has world-leading technology to identify individuals who break the law by harassing, menacing or threatening to kill politicians.
* It is also a crime to cause damage to MP and candidate property.
* When investigations are launched into the security of MPs or candidates, complainants, stakeholders and the AFP executive are kept informed.
